Curatorial Statement on: HALVING by Joji Fukushima
Often the most simple notion can be the most potent. In our daily lives we process so much information that the familiar can become little more then noise. Disruption is key then, in creating a break in the static that may allow us to reform the world around us in new and exiting ways.
HALVING, by Joji Fukushima is an exhibition and experiment, that explores the act of cutting things in half as a form of disruption. This concept is imposed upon every day objects, many purchased from IKEA, and asks us to question the standard forms of these objects.
Fukushima sets an example of reformation that should not simply be reproduced but expanded upon. He takes an almost anarchistic approach to reinventing objects. This de-constructive approach breeds new energy and excitement into the world of objects
